Is A Court Information Check Really Necessary?

Men and women with old criminal records often visit us looking for answers. In most cases, the offending record has shown up on a police record check, and is now inhibiting their ability to find work or travel freely.

Once they have employed us, we will arrange to get all of the necessary background information on file.  First, we get a copy of the police record check showing your criminal record. Next we conduct a court information check for the exact same information.

Why A Court Information Check?

Why would we ask for the exact same information on two different checks? Is this just a way for us to look busy? No.

A court information check will tell us what happened to give the criminal record. In some cases, due to clerical error, the two background checks do not line up. When this happens, the official court record is used as reference and all other information must be corrected to align properly.  It’s more paperwork, but it’s all for the best.

How Does This Help?

Sometimes a clerical error means your criminal record is actually a false-positive report. If you were given a stayed conviction for instance, you would not need a pardon at all!  If you were convicted of a crime, but the court documents show that you are ineligible for a pardon, then it can save you a lot of time and money.

We started Express Pardons to help get Canadians back on their feet.  The best way to do that is to have all the facts before we go in front of the parole board.  Taking care of small things like this is why our success rate stays so high.
